Domestic market gets flooded with Intl apparel brands

06
Jun '08
International brands have had a huge impact on Chinese apparel market and since the introduction of Pierre Cardin in 1978, there's no stopping the brand-wagon.

In the years that followed, China saw the influx of more and more international brands like Montagut, Cratier, Zegna, Lois Vuitton, Burberry and Chanel.

While Hugo Boss made a huge sale in the domestic market, Gucci attracted the affluent section of the Chinese and Christian Dior dominated the luxury clothing market of women. On the other hand, HerMes, Giorgio Armani, Versace, Tiffany, Valentino, Prada, H&M, Zara and a host of others also made their presence felt in a huge way.

Presently, there is a wave of international brands competing in Chinese markets which is attracting fashion fads. However, in the midst of a struggle for monopolizing and flooding markets, the local brands are being completely sidelined.

Domestic garment companies need to wake up before it gets too late and their market share gets monopolised among foreign brands.
