Six Israeli fashion designers were selected to participate in the prestigious Fashion Coterie on Sept 20-22 at the Show Piers in New York.
The trade show is known for its handpicked designers comprising both established names and the young avant-garde of fashion. This is the first time Israeli fashion designers have been presented at the show.
Israeli designers Bracha Brown, Katomenta, Sasson Kedem, Sigal Dekel, Reuma Zaks and Ella Gonen presented their collections at the international booth. The six Israeli designers were carefully selected from among 16 candidates after prolonged deliberations.
The most prominent buyers from all over the world attended the show and this year's exhibitors included designers such as Donna Karen, Max Mara, Missoni, Anna Sui and many other well known names.
The Fashion and Textile sectors at the Israel Export Industry, headed by Mira Geshel, recognized the potential of Israeli fashion designers and initiated contact with the exhibitor organizers. Colman McCartan, the trade show's marketing director, was invited to Israel to get a first hand at look at the Israeli fashion industry.
During his visit here, McCartan held a special seminar for Israeli fashion designers entitled "What to do to get into the prestigious Coterie trade show." Among other things, McCartan talked about innovation, unique design, quality of designs, type of display and packaging.
McCartan said he had been very impressed by the Israeli designers and coordinated with the Israel Export Institute to set up a committee to select candidates for the show.
