Egypt, which has a huge textile processing industry, may very soon see its cotton yarn supplies coming from India instead of East Asia.
Delegates from Global Buying Services (GBS) in Cairo, Egypt recently visited India to initiate business dealings with some cotton yarn manufacturers.
Although full details about the proposition have not been revealed, it is amply evident that the company was seeking a tie up for developing cotton piece-dyed fabric in partnership with a major player in the southern region of India.
Industrial sources have confirmed that the company required cotton yarn for feeding its knitting industry and has plans to source 10 containers or 200 tons of yarn every month.
Presently, the country is procuring cotton yarn from various regions and after processing it into fabric and readymade garments, the goods are sent to such mega marts like Carrefour and Wal-Mart.
However, the only major hurdle that stands in the way of sourcing huge quantity of cotton from India is that of strengthening of rupee which makes the raw material comparatively more expensive.
Nonetheless, GBS is resolute about importing cotton yarn from the country because of its excellent quality that maintains consistency.
