The world's finest bale of wool to be ever procured and sold at an auction fetched $244,000 to wool growers in Australia. However, the sale was definitely nowhere near the record price for a bale of wool, which was $1 million.
The wool which got auctioned in Sydney was 11.6 microns and came from the Hillcreston stud, in southern New South Wales. It was purchased by Lempriere, a broking company that bought the wool on behalf of Raymond's, India.
Wool growers took upon an extensive breeding program to produce this fine bale of wool. From embryo transfer to artificial insemination, breeders undertook a number of experimentation to obtain this bale of wool which is the best that could have ever been produced.
The bale produced last year was 13.4 micron so this year the sheep fleeced were genetically suitable to procure this fine wool.
