SHETLAND textile group will be celebrating its 20th anniversary tomorrow, at an Open Day in the isles' new museum. The Shetland Guild of Spinners, Weavers, Knitters and Dyers was formed in 1988 with only 12 members. The number has now risen to nearly 45 and associates are from countries like Australia, America, Canada and Japan.

Shetland Amenity Trust, a charitable organization, is seeking funds to renovate the ramshackled Voe House building in Walls village and turn it into a museum for the guild.

On July 12, visitors will get a chance to see how knitting and spinning is done, as there will be free demonstrations. Later in this month as well as in August, members will display the skills on all Saturday afternoons.

The Museum will also be showcasing a small section of guild's textile collection, that will help the onlookers know more about the journey of textile till date. The display will continue for the whole year untill the group has its own premises.
