According to the latest Customs statistics, in June 2008, China imported a total of 26,350 tons of polyester chip, an increase of 387 tons or 1.49 percent from May, and representing a growth of 3.64 percent over the same period last year.
Import value amounted to US $368.91 million, up 2.24 percent over the previous month, and 14.71 percent over the same time last year.
The average price for June imports was $1,400 per ton, slight hike of 0.74 percent from May, but a year-on-year rise of almost 10.68 percent.
In the first half of 2008, China's total imports of polyester chip scored 104,781 tons, representing a fall of 31.37 percent from the same period last year. Total import value reached $1.47731 billion, down 20.15 percent from May.
The average import price was $1,410 per ton, representing a rise of 16.35 percent as compared to corresponding period last year.
