In first half of the current year, Vietnamese textile and apparel industry imported cotton on a lower price compared to previous year. According to official sources of Ministry of Industry and Trade (MOIT), more or less similar scenario is prevailing in the world cotton market.
Price of cotton declined at most of the supplying markets during this period. Prices quoted from Cote d'Ivoire stood at US $1,725 ton, which was down by one percent. Burkina Faso registered at $1,700 ton, decrease by 1.7 percent and $1,680 ton was quoted from Mali, showing a plunge by almost six percent.
However, prices from Switzerland was quoted at $1,710 ton, registering stability.
On the other hand, the two biggest suppliers of cotton for the country, namely US and India witnessed a growth in prices. The US quoted $1,650 per ton, an increase by 1.3 percent and Indian cotton prices stood at $1,640 per ton, surging by 3.9 percent.
