Import of synthetic fibre & yarn drops in 2008

According to the data released by the General Administration of Customs, from January to July 2008, China imported nearly 2,10,000 tons of textile synthetic fibre. This showcases a year-on-year decline of 36.7 percent from the similar period last year.
The accumulated import value of synthetic fibre amounted to almost US $496.661 million, down 26.6 percent when compared to first seven months of 2007. From the total import of synthetic fibre, July imports reached nearly 30,000 tons, worth around $77.74 million.
Similarly, the import of synthetic fibre yarn in July this year also observed a decline. Nearly 50,000 tons of synthetic fibre yarn was imported last month, up 25 percent when compared to June, however, down 14.40 percent from July 2007.
Import value reached almost $1.496 billion, witnessing a rise of 97.9 million or 7 percent from June, however, a slight fall of 4.18 percent is seen when compared to same time of 2007.
The average price of July imports was approximately $2,993 per ton, dropping by 14.40 percent from the previous month, but boosting 14.98 percent in comparison to July 2007.
From January to July 2008, China's total import of synthetic fibre yarn registered 320,000 tons, representing a 17.95 percent decrease when compared to first seven months of last year.
Total import value of synthetic fibre yarn came around $9.796 billion, down 7.38 percent from the same time of 2007. The average price of import reached nearly $3,061 per ton, showcasing a year-on-year growth of 12.88 percent.
