Seven state owned jute mills, operating in the Khulna-Jessore industrial belt are going through crisis for quite some time now. One of the major reasons for such critical situation can be cited as less jute supply.

Circumstances are grave and this is evident from the fact that daily production of these seven units, namely, Creasent, Platinum, Star, Aleem, Eastern, Jassore and Carpeting Jute Mills, has gone down from 269 metric ton to 109.60 metric ton.

These facilities produce mainly, 8000 bales of Jute hessian and 25,000 of sacks on a monthly basis.

Sources from Bangladesh Jute Mill Corporation (BJMC) informed Fibre2fashion, that these manufacturing units had been facing difficulty for past many weeks; however, for the past two weeks, severe scarcity of jute has hampered regular production. Along with this, labour unrest and disrupted electrical supply are also creating havoc on these units.

The saddest part is, lack of proper attention from the Bangladeshi Government is worsening the situation.

What ever the situation is, the BJMC source sounded optimistic and said that in the coming two weeks, the conditions are expected to improve.
