Etar 2008, the international traditional crafts exhibition is scheduled from September 5 and will continue till 7, at the architectural-ethnographic reserve of Etar near Gabrovo, central Stara Planina. This event is co-organized by Gabrovo Municipality, the Etar architectural-ethnographic complex and the Ministry of Culture.
The handicraft expo will provide an excellent opportunity to not only local but also artisans from Romania, Moldova, Czech Republic, Morocco, Japan and Russia, to display their wide range of products in front of eager buyers of the region.
More than 60 potters, basket weavers, gold and copper smiths along with embroiderers and painters, will take part in this grand fair to make it memorable.
The artists will demonstrate the process of dyeing wool by using natural colours, painting eggs, making different objects using origami, for the visitors to make the craft more popular.
Before the opening of this grand traditional fair, Etar will hold a competition of masters potters from September 3 to 6. A two day international conference on 'Traditional Crafts - Past, Present and Future' will also be organized from September 4, where participants will discuss various art forms and the changes they have gone through with the passage of time.
In 2007, nearly 11,000 people had visited the Etar Expo and this year the organizers are expecting the number to grow further.
