According to the statistics, fabric exports of China in July 2008 recorded over 286 million meters, worth 258 million yuan.

In the first 7 months of this year, exports reached 1.852 billion meters, registering a year-on-year drop of 0.36 percent. However, fabric export value marked a significant growth of 5.95 percent to earn around 1.588 billion yuan.

Besides, China imported 34 million meters of fabric, worth 66.5 million yuan in the month of July this year.

In the first seven months of this year, China imported 201 million meters of fabric, down by 19.95 percent than the same period of last year. The total import value was 350 million yuan, plunging 1.99 percent as compared to same period of 2007.

In addition to this, some fabric exporters of Pakistan are preparing to set up offices in China Mainland, in order to exploit the opportunities in this huge market.

Thus, competition in domestic market is set to get stronger. Experts say that local fabric manufacturers must focus on quality and try to expand their market share at home, especially since future of export seems bleak.
