BASF is the leading chemical company in the Dow Jones Sustainability World Index (DJSI World). The Chemical Company was recognized for its climate strategy, its environmental and social reporting and for developing innovative and eco-efficient products.

The DJSI World is the most important sustainability index and represents the top 10 percent of the largest 2,500 companies in each industry in the Dow Jones Global Index.

“We are very proud that BASF has taken a leading position in this index. It shows that we are on the right path with our sustainability strategy and our commitment to climate protection,” said Dr. Ulrich von Deessen, Climate Protection Officer and head of BASF's Environment, Health & Safety competence center.

“We combine economic success with environmental and social responsibility thanks to products that help conserve resources and improve energy efficiency. We have ambitious goals for the future and will not rest on our laurels.”

BASF a member of DJSI World since 2001
BASF shares were included in the DJSI World for the eighth year in succession in 2008. The companies that are included have to improve from year to year and are selected by analysts from Sustainable Asset Management Group (SAM).

This year, SAM scrutinized almost 90 criteria to generate comprehensive evaluations of the companies with respect to sustainability.

Among other things, the questions referred to customer satisfaction and compliance, product stewardship and climate protection as well as ecological and social standards for suppliers.
