Export of textile & garment to Japan rises significantly

According to the General Statistics, in July 2008, the export turnover of Vietnamese textile and garment products to Japan increased by almost 34 percent when compared to the previous month and marks an rise of 22 percent. The nation earned nearly US $78.3 million of overseas revenue by shipping textile and apparel items in the month of July.

Most products experienced a strong growth rate; however, a significant rise in the demand of elastic shirts and jackets was marked. Experts believe that, export of these two items will continue to rise in the coming months also.

The seventh month of 2008, has witnessed the strongest growth rate in exports since the beginning of the year, and became the highest export turnover month, in the past three years.

The export of trousers earned nearly $12.4 million for Vietnam and became the highest export earning item, showcasing a considerable rise of 28.5 percent over June and 7.29 percent when compared to July 2007.

Shipment of elastic shirt increased by almost 119 percent when compared to June and 252 percent over same period of 2007, the nation earned nearly $9.8 million through export of this product to Japan.

The export of jacket also experienced a considerable boost and fetched around $6.2 million, increase of 150 percent and 55 percent was observed, when compared to June 2008 and July 2007, respectively.

The demand for shirts and vests also went up by 27 percent and 62 percent in comparison to previous month of 2008.

On the whole, in the first seven months, Vietnam's textile and garment export to Japan reached $442 million, representing a rise of 13 percent over same period last year.
