Index for textiles group up by 0.07%

The W.P.I. Index based rate of inflation for the week ending 30.08.2008 has been provisionally estimated at 12.10% as against the previous week's level of 12.34%.

The textiles group has an overall weight of 9.8% in the WPI Index and hence it is an important group in measuring inflation.

The index for 'Textiles' group rose by 0.07 per cent to 144.3 (Provisional) from 144.2 (Provisional) for the previous week due to higher prices of tyre cord fabric (14%), mixed fabrics and cotton grey cloth & canvas (7% each) and hessian & sacking bags (2%). However, the prices of synthetic yarn (1%) declined.

The annual inflation in respect of the textile group of items was 8.41% as compared to 12.10% for all commodities for the week ending 30.08.2008. The weekly inflation of the textile group for the week ending 30.08.08 was 0.07 per cent compared to 0.21 per cent for all commodities.
