Seminar on Agrotextiles: Emerging Opportunities to be held in Oct

The Office of The Textile Commissioner & SASMIRA (The Synthetic & Art Silk Mills' Research Association) and FICCI will organize a one-day seminar on Agrotextiles: Emerging Opportunities on 1st October, 2008 at Hotel Intercontinental, The Grand, Mumbai.
This seminar is expected to highlight the present global and domestic scenario of agro textile industry and generate awareness about the potential of agro textile products.
The Seminar is also expected to increase awareness about the application of agro textiles amongst end-user industry and emphasize the importance of raw material and machinery for the agro textile industry.
Dr. Mangala Rai, Secretary & Director General (ICAR) is expected to make the inaugural address at the seminar and Dr. J.N. Singh, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Textiles, Govt of India, would address the industry as Guest of Honour at the Seminar.
Agro textiles prevent the soil from drying out thereby increasing the crop yield, and improving product quality. Such textiles protect the farmer from harmful pesticides.
In India agro textile is one of the significant segments of technical textile products occupying a significant place in terms of volume consumption. Internationally, the agro-textile market is expected to grow from 1615000 tonnes (US$6.5 billion) in 2005 to 1958000 tonnes (US$8.1 billion) in 2010, at an average growth rate of 3.9% per annum.
