From being among the top 10 textile and garment exporters in the world, Vietnam targets becoming the leading five by 2015.

The objective was further made clear by Mr Bui Xuan Khu, Deputy Minister of Ministry of Industry and Trade who noted that the growth rate achieved so far could be enhanced to make the country one of the five leading supplier of textile and garments to the world by 2015.

To achieve this target, the textile and garment industry of the country has plans to develop 40,000 hectares for growing to serve domestic production and for export. Besides, the Vietnam Textile and Apparel Group (Vinatex) and other enterprises are also expected to spend VND6,500 billion into cotton growing and fibre production.

As of now, Vinatex is coordinating with National Vietnam Oil and Gas Group for building the first polyester factory in Vietnam with a capacity of 400 tons of fibre, 50 tons of special fibre and another 50 tons of polyester chip per day.

This production unit is anticipated to commence production in 2011 with a total investment of VND3,000 billion.
