Handicraft sector of Bushehr fetches high revenue

Bushehr is a city located on the southwestern coast of Iran and is famous far and wide for its handicraft industry. The main handicraft of this region is Gabbeh, a particular type of carpet which is woven using sheep wool and goat hair.

According to the available statistics Bushehr has fetched foreign revenue worth nearly US $7 million by exporting handicraft items from March till September 21 of this year. Major handicraft products that helped the city earn foreign exchange include various decorative pieces made from straw and woven items using Klim technique.

Mainly European countries and the Persian Gulf littoral states are the main markets for all the traditional and ethnic handicrafts items that reflect the deep rooted culture and tradition of Bushehr.

It is estimated that around 40,000 people of the region are associated with handicraft sector for earning their living.
