Inflation Index in textiles sector declines by 2.2%

The W.P.I. Index based rate of inflation for the week ending 27.09.2008 has been provisionally estimated at 11.80% as against the previous week's level of 11.99%.
The textiles group has an overall weight of 9.8% in the WPI Index and hence it is an important group in measuring inflation.
The index for 'Textiles' group declined by 2.2 percent to 140.2 (Provisional) from 143.3 (Provisional) for the week due to lower prices of cotton yarn-cones and polyster staple fibre (5%) each and cotton yarn-'hanks (4%). The prices of raw wool and raw cotton have also declined to 6% and 3% respectively.
The annual inflation in respect of the textile group of items was 6.21% as compared to 11.80% for all commodities for the week ending 27.09.2008. The weekly inflation of the textile group decreased by 2.2 per cent for the week ending 27.09.08 as compared to 0.12 per cent in all commodities.
