INEOS Olefins & Polymers USA announced its intention to strengthen its competitiveness in its US polypropylene assets. Two polypropylene bulk phase units located at the Battleground Manufacturing Complex in La Porte, TX will be shut down by early 2009.
The closure represents approximately 520 M lbs/year of homopolymer and random copolymer capacity. One of the two lines will close by the end of 2008; the other line will close at the end of January 2009. A majority of grades will be translated to other INEOS polypropylene assets.
“INEOS remains committed to delivering quality products that meet our customers' needs, and we believe that our decision clearly demonstrates our intent to optimize our asset base and assure a robust polypropylene business consistent with the overall strategies of Olefins & Polymers USA”, said Dennis Seith, CEO of the INEOS' Olefins & Polymers USA business.
“This optimization, coupled with our focus on new product development for our remaining assets, demonstrates our long term commitment to serving the polypropylene market with high quality, competitive and innovative products,” concludes Dennis Seith.
