The W.P.I. Index based rate of inflation for the week ending 15.11.2008 has been provisionally estimated at 8.84% as against the previous week's level of 8.90%.
The textiles group has an overall weight of 9.8% in the WPI Index and hence it is an important group in measuring inflation.
The index for 'Textiles' group rose by 1.0 percent to 141.8 (Provisional) from 140.4 (Provisional) for the previous week due to higher prices of cotton yarn-cones and hessian & sacking bags (4% each), texturised yarn (2%), hessian cloth and cotton yarn-'hanks (1% each). However, the prices of synthetic yarn (2%), raw cotton (2%) and raw silk (1%) declined.
The annual inflation in respect of the textile group of items was 7.26% as compared to 8.84% for all commodities for the week ending 15.11.2008. The weekly inflation of the textile group increased to 1.0 per cent for the week ending 15.11.08 as compared to decrease of 0.4 per cent in all commodities
