TESTEX receives accreditation to test under US CPSC rules

TESTEX, Switzerland's internationally recognised textile testing institute, has been accredited as from 11/25/2008 by the US Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) as a third-party testing laboratory with the CPSC Identification Number 1057. It refers to the Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act (CPSIA) regarding Lead in children's products: 16 CFR Part 1303 - Toys and Children's Products.
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) is an independent federal regula-tory agency created by Congress in 1972 under the Consumer Product Safety Act. CPSC is charged with protecting the public from unreasonable risks of serious injury or death from thousands of types of consumer products under the agency's jurisdiction.
The CPSC is committed to protecting consumers and families from products that pose a fire, electrical, chemical, or mechanical hazard or can injure children. The CPSC's work to ensure the safety of consumer products - such as textiles, toys, cribs, power tools, cigarette lighters, and household chemicals - contributed significantly to the 30 percent decline in the rate of deaths and injuries associated with consumer products over the past 30 years.
Upon the section 14(a)(3)(E) of the Consumer Product Safety Act, TESTEX has been ac-cepted as accredited laboratory to test Lead in children's (age <12) product, 16 CFR Part 1303 (effective date 12/21/2008) of children's product safety rules and therefore identified in the accreditation scope (www.seco.admin.ch). A manufacturer of a children's product like textiles, that wants to sell to the USA must comply with this rule and show certification of compliance based on test results from an accredited laboratory like TESTEX.
TESTEX is the only Swiss and also the first laboratory of the OEKO-TEX Association to be accredited to determine the mandatory tests according to the requirements of CPSIA on chil-dren's products like textiles and toys and listed on the Website of CPSC.
