A Gujarat handicraft Mela opened today at Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, Pandeshwar, in Mangalore, and will run till Tuesday December 30.
Harsha, President of Dakshina Kannada District Journalists' Association, inaugurated the Mela today at 4 pm in the evening. The 10 day event is organized by the development commissioner (handicrafts), ministry of textiles.
Exquisite gujarati embroideries, patchwork, leather products, textile accessories jewelries, tie and dye products, Azark prints, Batik prints, shawls, and other crafts are on display at the Mela.
Speaking to media persons, Jackob D'Souza, investigator, development commissioner (handicrafts) said that artisans will be present in their traditional costumes and few of the crafts will be demonstrated here.
Experts say that this expo will help the artisans to come in direct contact with the buyers.
