Dec '08
Bangalore is host to a unique exhibition, Arts and Crafts Exposition, where arts and crafts from all across the country are on exhibit. This expo has been sponsored by an NGO working for the development of rural artisans. Over 35 artisans from different states are showcasing their products.

The list of products on display is in-exhaustive. In the handicrafts section, there is a myriad collection of ethnic handcrafted kantha embroidered ensembles along with an assortment of paintings on Tussar silk. There are beautiful hand woven cotton and silk saris from Orissa.

More striking are the Bomkai and katki, the specialty of the Sambalpur tribals. Ikat saris featuring motifs and borders in outstanding combinations are a feast for the eyes. Adding a touch of artistry is the semi-precious stone jewellery from Jaipur in Rajasthan.

Other items on display are the kantha saris of West Bengal, phulkari dress fabrics from Punjab, mangalgiri saris and again dresses from Jaipur and Pochampalli. The fair will run till December 28.
