Recently available data from Ministry of Industry and Trade show that in December, the country fetched nearly US $5 billion from exports, up 10 percent over November. The total export value in 2008 reached $80 billion in 2008, showing a rise of 27.5 percent over 2007.
Textile and garment product is in the list of 11 exported products that had earned foreign exchange over $1 billion.
With $9.1 billion, textile and garment industry stood second in the queue, after crude oil ($10.45 billion), representing for 11.37 percent of the total export value.
At present, the Ministry of Industry and Trade proposes to take textile and garment industry into the list of industries that get assistance to borrow capital for production.
