The W.P.I. Index based rate of inflation for the week ending 20.12.2008 has been provisionally estimated at 6.38% as against the previous week's level of 6.61%.
The textiles group has an overall weight of 9.8% in the WPI Index and hence it is an important group in measuring inflation.
The index for 'Textiles' group declined by 0.1 percent to 141.2 (Provisional) from 141.4 (Provisional) for the previous week due to lower prices of synthetic yarn (2%). However, the prices of raw silk (5%) moved up.
The annual inflation in respect of the textile group of items was 10.66% as compared to 6.38% for all commodities for the week ending 20.12.2008. The weekly inflation of the textile group decreased by 0.1 per cent for the week ending 20.12.08 as compared to decrease of 0.2 per cent in all commodities.
The index for 'Chemicals & Chemical Products' group declined by 0.05 percent to 220.0 (Provisional) from 220.1 (Provisional) for the previous week due to lower prices of acid (all kinds) (2%). However, the prices of caustic soda (sodium hydroxide) (3%) moved up.
