Shell presents two scenarios at seminar on energy challenges
Jan '09
“Shell Chemicals' has developed two global energy scenarios that is called Scramble and Blueprints, that describes different routes the energy system could take between now and 2050”, Executive Vice President Mr. Ben van Beurden said when he gave a presentation on 'Energy Challenge: Implications for the Middle East and the Global Chemical Industry' in Dubai.

While commenting on the global energy consumption, Mr. Ben said, “After 2015, supply of oil and natural gas would not be in par with the demand. To bridge the gap, world will have to optimize energy utilization. CO2 emissions will increase the impact of the man-made greenhouse gases which urges the needs for technological ingenuity to manage and reduce the effect of these emissions.

In Scramble, policymakers pay little attention to more efficient energy use until supplies are tight. In Blueprints, growing local actions address the challenges of economic development, energy security and pollution.”

Mr.Ben positively asserted that the chemical sector hold a key position that will enable the society to meet energy challenges, that will make the world a better and sustainable place to live.

He also said that discussions are in process relating to a regional energy policy in the EU to develop viable commercial carbon capture and storage systems over the next decade. Added in the list, Australia, and several states in the US are also collaborating on regional systems.
