The Government of India has decided to extend the term of the anti-dumping duty imposed on imports of Sodium Hydrosulphite from Germany and Korea by an additional period of five years, which was first imposed in 2003 and was up for reconsideration.
Sodium Hydrosulphite is mainly consumed by industries like textiles, leather, paper etc. This move on the Ministry of Finance is expected to favour the local producers of the chemical. Anti-dumping duty will be levied on the difference between US $1,034 per ton and the landed value of imported chemical.
This special duty was re-imposed on the grounds that, if the term had not been extended, it would still harm the local producers of the chemical due to the price difference between domestic prices and landed imported prices of Sodium Hydrosulphite.
