New chairman for EATP

EATP, the European Association for Textile Polyolefins, is pleased to announce the appointment of a new Chairman.
Mr Selim Akdogan was unanimously elected as Chairman at the Association's General Assembly in Madrid, on May 11. Mr Akdogan is President of Ünsa Ambalaj, Turkey. He succeeds Mr Allan Thompson, who had served as Chairman for the maximum six years allowed under EATP rules.
Ünsa Ambalaj is one of the leading world manufacturers of flexible intermediate bulk containers (FIBCs, also known as “big bags”), with production facilities in Turkey and China, and a global presence spanning five continents. It is also a producer of geotextiles. Its activities are vertically integrated, from the extrusion of polypropylene tapes through weaving to finished technical textile products.
Following his appointment, Selim Akdogan stated:
“I am delighted and honoured to have been asked to serve as EATP Chairman.
“The polyolefin textiles industry in Europe is a major economic sector, with annual sales of over €3 billion, and an outstanding record of innovation and market growth.
“Allan Thompson has given outstanding service as EATP Chairman for the last six years and the whole polyolefin textiles industry owes him a debt of gratitude. He has promoted the development of EATP during his chairmanship in many different directions, with a broadened range of professional services to the members. I am proud to follow in his footsteps.
“This is a period of rapid change for the European polyolefin textiles industry, and further evolution of EATP's role will be necessary. The industry needs a strong representational voice in Brussels, and the common services and information which help companies manage their businesses effectively.
“There are many challenges ahead for our industry, and I look forward to working with the EATP members and staff to promote its future success.”
