The Thailand textile industry has witnessed reduction in exports in the first quarter, about which the Thailand Textile Institute is hopeful that it will see improvements in the second half of the year.
In first four months, there was a 14 percent year-on-year reduction in textile and garment exports. The Executive Director, Mr. Virat Tandaechanurat expects that the textile exports of Thailand would not be lower than US$ 7 billion this year, which is a 2.7 percent slide from the exports in 2008 valued at US$ 7.2 billion.
Though in the first four months there was a drastic decrease in textile exports, sales to Japan remained positive because of the tax incentives from the Japan-Thailand Economic Partnership Agreement.
Mr. Virat said that the demand for textile is expected to rise in the second half, from Japan as well as other countries.
