Ministries convene meeting regarding Frame Vertical Pipeline

The Minister of Trade and Industry: Dr Rob Davies and Minister of Economic Development: Ebrahim Patel met with the KwaZulu-Natal MEC for Economic Development and Tourism, Mike Mabuyakhulu, Seardel, and senior officials of Sactwu, the Industrial Development Corporation (IDC), the National Empowerment Fund (NEF) and the dti as part of a process aimed at avoiding the loss of strategic industrial capacity and employment associated with the Frame Vertical Pipeline (FVP)textile facility.

Following from previous interactions, a productive meeting was held which explored various scenarios to avoid the loss of strategic capacity and employment associated with the Frame Vertical Pipeline (FVP) operation.

The meeting set a deadline of the end of June 2009 for reaching finality on this matter and all parties pledged their best endeavors to ensure: the retention of strategic textile production capabilities, maintenance of supply to customers, and employment and economic activity in a region of the country with high levels of unemployment.
