In the first half of this year, China had US $8.276 billion of exports involved in trade lawsuits, much higher than $6.2 billion in the whole year of 2008, reflecting that protection measures in global trade continues to grow and is constantly evolving since the out burst of the financial crisis.

Deputy Director, Liu Danyang of Fair Trade Bureau for Import and Export, in the Minister of Commerce says that trade protectionism has obviously increased and there is a growing trend of countries abusing WTO trade remedy measures, since the financial crisis.

The number and amount of money involved in trade frictions around the world have been unprecedented. In the second half of 2008, the world initiated 120 anti-dumping investigations in total, 36 percent higher than the first half.

China was the target of 73 anti-dumping investigation and 10 countervailing cases last year, accounting for 35 percent and 71 percent of the total number of global cases, respectively.

The situation is even worse in the current year. 15 countries have initiated 60 surveys against China (anti-dumping, countervailing, safeguard measures, product-specific safeguard measures), involving as much as $8.27 billion, significantly higher than last year.
