Cotton farmers across the country have heaved a sigh of relief, with the arrival of monsoons in the country, which had raised concerns of a significant drop in production, but attack of pests still remain a matter of concern for these farmers.

The monsoons touched Pakistan shores a bit late, but now since the past ten days it has revived hopes of achieving the government target of 13.36 million bales in the new cotton season, though experts have raised concerns over the quality of cotton.

Area under cotton cultivation has increased from 2.8 million hectares in the last cotton year to 3.2 million hectares in the current cotton year, which has raised hopes of a better crop in this year, unless natural disasters come in the way.

Cotton crops in Pakistan have been highly susceptible to pests like white fly and cotton leaf curl virus attacks which directly affects the yield of the crop, leading to a fall in overall output.
