Bihar Handlooms Buyer-Seller Meet - a thumping success!

The first ever three day Buyer-Seller meet for the handloom industry began in Patna from August 7, 2009. It was inaugurated by the Minister of Industry of Bihar, Mr Bijendra Prasad. Weavers from nine clusters are participating in the meet and are showcasing their products ranging from saris, stoles, home textile items, dhoti, silk items etc.

After the inauguration, Fibre2fashion - the global textile and apparel website, which was instrumental in attracting the global buyers, introduced one by one, each of the buyers, in all 13, who came from Canada, Dubai, Bangladesh and various parts of India to the audience, which numbered around 80-100 people.

Throughout the day, the buyers and sellers had a close interaction and they were very happy to get a first hand view from weavers and the weavers in turn also expressed their satisfaction over the amount orders they received.

Amongst the buyers were Mr AK Singh of Ethnic Village, Canada, Mr Bhagwan Jaswani, SkyTex, Dubai and Mr Barkat from Bangladesh who were astonished with the range and richness of Bihar handlooms.

IL&FS CDI Limited, the Project Managers of the event helped arrange a visit to the Bihar-e-Sharif handloom cluster on the second day, so that the buyers could have a first hand look at the manufacturing process of the textile products from there.

According to Mr Viren Mehta, Head, Marketing at Fibre2fashion, “This is the first of physical interventions from Fibre2fashion.com which has always remained dominant in the virtual space and we are enthused with buyers who have shown great interest in the handloom and silk products on display here".

He enthusiastically added by saying that we are expecting good number of orders to be placed by them before the final day that is August 10.

The Dubai based buyer, Mr Bhagwan Jaswani, said he was very impressed by the workmanship of Bihar handloom products and was hoping to place a large order after consulting with his company's quality control division.
