A number of measures are being taken to improve the socio-economic status of power-loom and handloom weavers in Uttar Pradesh, informed the state government.

Hordes of schemes including the project of Rs. 400 crore were being launched to enhance their conditions.

This was informed by the Textile Minister Mr. Jagdish Narain Rai, while responding to an adjournment notice moved by the BJP members that highlighted the plight of weavers.

The project of Rs. 400 crore is for providing financial assistance to the weavers for purchasing new machines and equipments, he said.

He further added that to ensure buyers for the products of the handloom and power-loom weavers of the state, UPICA and Handloom Corporation are being run on the basis of Public Private Partnership.

Along with this, cluster and insurance schemes are also being launched to aid the wavers, said the minister.
