The Micro, Small and Medium Enterprise (MSME) development centre of the city has framed some ambitious upgrade and improvement plans under the guidance of National Manufacturing Competitiveness Program, due to which, more than 5,000 Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) spread across the city will get a boost.

The National Manufacturing Competitiveness Program foresees to set up community assistance centres at accessible locations, for each and every sector of small enterprises. The industries will receive technical expertise and professional consultancy services at very marginal fees and, also the information regarding latest government promotional schemes, through these centres.

This project, which is based on Private-Public Partnership (PPP) model, will prove to be helpful to create a better-equipped cluster as well as to improve productivity with minimum inputs. Generating industry and sector specific expertise at least costs for commercial practice is the project's key point of focus.

The government has allocated 60 percent of total funds required for this project, while rest of the 40 percent will be offered by the industrial bodies interested to join the project. Problems of the industrialists will be attended and resolved by the team of experts stationed permanently at the centres. Labourers, accountants and managers associated with the industries will be imparted industrial training under this project.

The small and big clusters across the city including hosiery, soap, leather, chemicals and plastic industries will learn about better and cost-effective marketing skills to attract potential customers.

In order to ensure the international quality standards, product testing facilities will also be offered. It has been expected that the new program will boost the production within next six months at least by 25 percent and will provide an international standard to the products of the city.

A similar program conducted in China with respect to improving SMEs' share in national exports has delivered exceptional results, and the program hopes to repeat the same in Kanpur too.
