coldblack nominated for Design Preis Schweiz

The biennial Design Preis Schweiz is held for the 10th time this year. The competition is a trusted valuable instrument for the promotion and positioning of outstanding design from Switzerland. In 2009, 36 projects from over 300 entries in five categories achieved nomination. Among them is the coldblack textile technology. “coldblack is a genuine innovation which deserves attention.

The necessity of protecting ourselves from damaging UV rays has long been recognized and is becoming increasingly urgent in view of climate change”, is how the nominators substantiated their decision.

coldblack: Sun Reflector – UV Protector
coldblack is a new textile finishing technology with a double benefit: The first being that it reduces the absorption of solar rays so that dark textiles, in particular, heat up significantly less when exposed to sunlight. The second benefit is that this technology provides reliable protection from damaging UV rays.

Regardless of their color, all textiles with the coldblack finish feature a UV protection factor of at least 30. Thanks to this double “shield” function, a whole world of applications opens up to this innovative technology – including fashion, functional wear and textiles for the outdoor sector (such as sun blinds or covering for garden furniture).

The coldblack finishing technology was developed by Schoeller Technologies AG and Clariant International Ltd. and launched in July 2008. Just which of the 36 projects nominated for the Design Preis 2009 wins in each category will be announced at the award ceremony on 6 November, 2009 in Langenthal.
