The power-loom workers in Coimbatore and Tirupur who were on strike since 27 days decided to call off their strike as the Textile Producers Association agreed to honour a pact signed in August 2008.
Around 25,000 power-loom workers, running more than 2 lakh power-looms in Coimbatore and Tirupur districts, staged this strike from August 5 as a protest against the 'Breech of agreement' by the producers.
The producers had reduced the wages of the power-loom workers by 10 percent, mentioning the plunge in market for grey fabrics as a reason for the same.
After having talks with the involved associations, the Tamil Nadu Government asked them to settle down the issue and resume power-loom operations. The producers also association agreed to pay the wages according to the agreement.
