Bahia to host International Congress on Natural Fibres

In September, is scheduled the realization of the International Congress on Natural Fibres in Bahia. The event will be coordinated by the Stational Office of Science, Technology and Inovation (SECTI), on partnership with Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO).

The Congress will reunite in Salvador researchers, students, producers and public managers focused on the productive chain of natural fibres. The International Congress on Natural Fibres in Bahia will happens between September, 09 and 11, on Pestana Hotel (Fonte do Boi Street, # 216 - Rio Vermelho Salvador (BA) Brazil).

In 2006, December 20th, the General Assembly of the United Nations decided to proclame the year of 2009 as the International Year of Natural Fibres, as resolution 61/189. The production of a great diversity of natural fibres produced in several countries has become a important source of income to a lot of productors that, link this, have an important role in providing food security, in eradicating poverty and contributing to achieving the Millennium Development Goals.
