CIIF to kick off next month

The inaugural China (Shenzhen) International Industrial Fair 2009 (CIIF) will kick off next month to showcase the best of light industrial goods and raw materials that China has to offer. The fair, running from 22-25 October at China South City (CSC) in Shenzhen, is expected to feature more than 400,000 types of products and raw materials from exhibitors in over 3,000 exhibition units.

The CIIF is held in support of the light industry in China, particularly in the Pearl River Delta. It is also hoped that the fair will help stimulate the domestic economy and promote exports while enhancing the competitiveness of China's light industry on the world stage. The fair will be held twice a year from this year on, alongside another major event on China's trade fair calendar, the China Import and Export Fair (Canton Fair) in spring and autumn each year.

The fair is the result of a joint decision between China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT), China Chamber of International Commerce (CCIC) and Shenzhen Municipal People's Government.It is co- organised by the Longgang District Government in Shenzhen, CCPIT Shenzhen Branch and China South International Industrial Materials City Shenzhen, with support from various government departments as well as industry bodies at home and overseas.

CIIF today held a presentation cum press conference in Hong Kong which was attended by more than 200 guests including consulate and trade representatives from 16 countries (U.S., France, Japan, Italy, Russia, Denmark, the Netherlands, Mexico, Chile,Australia, Myanmar, India, Korea, Malaysia, Singapore and Gabon) as well as executives from local trade and commercial sector. Speakers include Mr. Nan Ling, Deputy Chief Secretary, Shenzhen Municipal Government; Mr. Cliff Sun, BBS, JP, Chairman of Federation of Hong Kong Industries and Non-Executive Director of CSC; Mr. Ricky Cheng, Deputy Director, Organising Committee, China International Industrial Fair and Co- Chairman and Executive Director of CSC; and Mr. Sha Kezhong, Deputy Director of Exhibition Department, China Council for Promotion of International Trade and Deputy Chief Secretary of China Chamber of International Commerce.

The theme of this year's fair is "Procurement, Trading, Exchange and Partnership". The CIIF will complement the Canton Fair, and bring together the latest and the best in raw materials, light goods and technologies in the Pearl River Delta. The fair will be organized along seven distinct categories: textiles and clothing; leather and accessories; crafts and gifts; metals, chemicals and plastics; printing and packaging materials; electronics; and imported goods.

Mr. Nan Ling, Deputy Chief Secretary, Shenzhen Municipal Government, said in his address, "Manufacturing industries in the Pearl River Delta region have been making significant contributions to China's overall economic development and far-reaching impact on the global economy.The global financial crisis is presenting challenges to the sustainable development of the manufacturing industries in the region.
