The first edition of Yarnex - India International Yarn Exhibition which came to an end on September 6, 2009 drew accolades both from the participants and visitors alike. Over 4,674 visitors not only from Tirupur, but also the surrounding cities like Coimbatore, Salem, Karur, Erode, Dindigul, Madurai, Rajapalayam, Namakkal, Theni, Komarapalayam thronged the three-day event.

Furthermore, exhibitors said they entertained clientele not only from major cities of India like Mumbai, that they had visitors from around the country like Delhi, Kolkata, Chennai, Kerala, Surat, Ichalkaranji, Ahmedabad, Noida, Pune, Gurgaon, Chandigarh, Bangalore, Hyderabad and others, but also from overseas like USA, Myanmar, Colombo, UK, Thailand and the Middle East. They were here to source a wide range of yarns and fibers from nearly 50 participating suppliers.

“The response has been much higher than we ourselves expected,” said Mr P. Krishnamurthy, CEO, S S Media & Marketing, organizers of the show. “More so in these times of uncertain economy!”

The show was inaugurated by the Tirupur Exporters' Association (TEA) President Mr A. Sakthivel. He was genuinely pleased that such an event would expose manufacturers and exporters in this region to a wide range of yarn and fibers available in the market today. This exercise would help to them to give value-addition to their portfolio of products, he said. “There is heavy dependency on cotton-based knitwear products and at the moment this would restrict the export opportunities of businessmen to a very small segment of the market. With more use of synthetic fabrics, the manufacturers will be able to come out with a wider range including winter wear and swim wear, amongst others.”

One of the participants, Mr B. Balusamy, Director, Royal Yarns Coimbatore Private Ltd, Tirupur, who represent Vardhman Textiles Ltd., Ludhiana said: “The response has been excellent, in fact, fantastic. I have participated in yarn exhibitions in Tirupur a few times, but this has been the best. It can't get better than this.”

Mr N. R. Balachandra, Apparel Sales Manager - South India,Invista Sales & Service India Private Ltd: “The quality of visitors has been very good, the top and the right kind of people. A lot of people from places like Bangalore, Delhi, Erode, etc., also visited our stalls. Our expectations have been met.”

Mr Krishnakumar, Managing Director, Sulochana Cotton Spinning Mills Pvt Ltd.: “Good crowd. We got people even from outside Tirupur like Ahmedbad, Mumbai, Kolkata, Ludhiana, etc. Good introductions.”

Mr Mahesh Bhardwaj, CEO, Indofila Synthetics, Tirupur, too noted: “We got all types of clients - big, medium and small. They not only came from Tirupur, but also neighboring towns like Salem, Erode, Karur, Coimbatore etc. So far, only one percent of the people in Tirupur knew about my product. Now, I can say after this event, at least 20 percent of Tirupur know about my product.”
