More than 900 jobs related to the textile industry as well as the hospitality sector are in trouble after a linen supplying company and others went in for liquidation.
Linen Supply of Ireland applied to the High Court to have an examiner appointed, which has put at risk 566 jobs in the company.
The hospitality and retail sectors had been badly hit by the current recession, leading to a substantial decline in demand for the company's textile services.
The company provides textile rental and laundry cleaning services to companies in the hospitality, healthcare and food industries.
Turnover in the linen division is down 26% compared to the same time last year while overall it is estimated the company will lose up to €5m in the current year.
Three other hospitality companies have also applied for an examiner to be appointed on the back of slowdown, due to the recessionary trends.
