Experts from the Nigerian textile industry are of the opinion that the revival of the moribund textile sector is possible only if the present government accords it top priority.
According to them the government is still not aware, the extent to which the condition of the sector has worsened in recent years and ills afflicting it.
Nearly 51 textile companies have closed down between 1997 and 2009 and many more would follow unless the government wakes up and takes immediate action.
The other big reason was the rampant smuggling of cheap textiles and clothing in to the country, which also resulted in loss of revenue to the country.
They also aver that continuous electricity supply was needed to achieve profitability, but electricity cuts were the order of the day in Nigeria.
