T&G sector preferred destination for overseas buyers

The textile and clothing manufacturing sector has for long been the bulwark of the economy of Thailand. Despite the global economic crisis and the resultant slowdown, the sector has been able to withstand the pressures of recessionary trends, due to its strong foundations.
This has also helped Thailand to maintain a strong position among the countries of ASEAN as a strong sourcing base for clothing companies sourcing fabrics from Asian countries or apparel retailers from European Union, United States and Japan.
The textile sector draws its strength from the fully integrated manufacturing systems backed by upstream sectors such as fibre production, midstream operations such as spinning, weaving, dyeing and printing, and the downstream industry such as clothing and garment.
The textiles and garments manufactured by the thousands of companies are not geared for mass markets. Instead, they focus on quality and design, along with being a trendsetter, supplying a wide range of products to suit everyone's needs.
Along with showing its proficiency in traditional textiles, the country is building a competent base for functional fabrics, alongside. Nano or plasma coated fabrics have proved to be a rage, particularly in sportswear, due to their water repellent qualities.
The sector is also continuously investing in improving fabric quality and exercising tighter cost-cutting measures in the manufacturing process and also focusing on cutting down on use of harmful dyes and chemicals, by substituting it with green and clean technologies.
