Need for re-look at National Jute Policy - Thiru. Maran

The Minister said that the use of jutebased geo textiles in areas like erosion control, separation, filtration and drainage and soil reinforcement has already been established through extensive field trials in different states. Aggressive marketing campaign requires to be launched for promoting their use in these areas, emphasised Thiru Maran. He said that the Textiles Ministry will shortly take up a project worth 4 million US dollars jointly with the International Jute Study Group for testing, standardisation and promotion of Jute GeoTextiles.
The Government is actively contemplating the revival of National Jute Manufacturers Corporation Limited (NJMC) through Public Private Partnership mode, at an estimated cost of Rs. 1,202 crore, Possibility may be explored to establish a central composite processing unit with all facilities for printing, bleaching, dyeing, designing, etc., of diversified jute products in these revived units, said Thiru. Maran.
