The silk sericulture industry is all set to receive a big boost as the Haryana Horticulture Department has sent a proposal under the centrally-sponsored scheme Catalytic Development Programme to the Union Textile Ministry.

The cost of the programme is Rs 4.85 million and is being implemented by the Central Silk Board (CSB) in collaboration with the respective state departments to increase productivity and quality of silk in the state.

Three districts; Panchkula, Ambala and Yamunangar have been included in the proposal and farmers would be given 75 percent subsidy for Shahtoot farming. The cost of 300 Shahtoot plants would be Rs 5,500 under the programme.
