Statistical Office of the Republic of Slovenia released the consumer and retail price indices, October 2005.

In October inflation stood at 0.2 percent after a relatively high increase of prices in September. In October, consumer prices grew by rather modest 0.2 percent. This year, consumer prices were up 2.8 percent, while in the same period last year the rate of inflation was 2.9 percent.

October inflation mostly caused by higher prices of goods
For the second month in a row prices of goods were up, on average by 0.5 percent. Among goods, the highest increase was again registered with semi-durable goods (by 3.1 percent), while prices of durable goods increased by 1.1 percent and prices of non-durable goods decreased by 0.3 percent. Again, prices of services were down - this time on average by 0.5 percent.

EMU convergence price index unchanged
The growth of prices measured with the harmonised index of consumer prices was 0.1 percent, while the 12-month average price growth measured with the EMU convergence price index remained the same as in September, i.e. 2.7 percent.

According to September 2005 data, the EMU convergence criterion for inflation was 2.4 percent, which means that in the past month Slovenia's inflation was still 0.3 percentage point too high.

Total price growth pushed up by higher prices of clothing and footwear, fuels and cars
In October higher prices were registered in clothing and footwear (by 4.8 percent), education (by 0.8 percent), restaurants and hotels (by 0.5 percent), housing, water, electricity, gas and other (by 0.4 percent), and furnishing, household equipment and maintenance (by 0.2 percent).
