A retail centre, Shalmala showroom has been set up at Hubli airport by the Zilla Panchayat, which has on display a variety of GI-certified handicrafts and other rural art products. The centre which has been set up on an area of 30 sq. m. will be maintained by District Supply and Marketing Society.

Products like Gokak toys, Ilkal sarees, Bidriware, Mangoor silverware, Athani leather goods, Dharwadi kasuti, Betageri and Shigli sarees and embroidery products can be bought from this showroom. It will also display the items produced by physically challenged artisans of Equip India and Bhadiwad and Hubli hospitals.

The centre would function as a one-stop shop for all unique handicraft products of north Karnataka, expected the RDPR Minister, Mr. Jagadish Shettar, during inaugural ceremony of the showroom.

He informed that the store will also showcase the products manufactured by the women SHGs, rural artisans and other deprived groups. This will lend a hand to many native arts for survival, and will also prove helpful to generate pride about regional heritage among the younger generation, opined the Minister.
