Cotton production to be enhanced

The federal government, in consultation with the concerned ministries, is preparing to boost the capacity building of the farming sector, in order to enhance agricultural production and improve cultivation methods in the country.
Cotton production in Pakistan is expected to touch 15 million bales in a span of two-three years owing to concerned technology upgrades by the government in the State's agricultural sector along with introduction of superior quality seeds.
The government is to introduce contemporary breed of cottonseeds besides extending Research and Development (R&D) facilities to the farmers shortly. It is anticipated that the move will enhance the crop production per acre.
Due to reasons like uncertain climate and water situation prevailing in the country, cotton production reached 10 million bales during 2008-09.
