Power-loom workers of Anthiyur on strike

Around 1,500 power-loom workers at Anthiyur, a textile hub in the state of Tamil Nadu, are on strike, demanding to increase wages. Anthiyur is well-known for manufacturing towels, bed-sheets and other textile items.

Power-loom owners of Anthiyur are witnessing production loss of more than Rs. 5 million each day, while during these six days of strike they have experienced losses accumulating to above Rs. 30 million.

The power-loom units in Anthiyur, at present, have orders of about Rs. 200 million from wholesale textile dealers, informed the owners, but are unable to process the same due to the strike.
