About 16 traditional craft villages as well as 17 artisans of Hanoi had been honored by the Hanoi Municipal People's Community on February 3. This was to honor the efforts and contribution made by the artisans and villages to preserve and develop traditional handicrafts in the year 2009.
There are around 1,270 handicraft villages in the capital of Vietnam offering livelihood to around one million people, which is about 42 percent of the total number of workers in industrial and crafts sector of the city.
In 2009, these craft villages generated revenue of VND 7 trillion, which is 10 percent of value generated from production of industry and crafts.
